The IRS has not yet communicated the official start date to the e-filing season. There are however websites reporting that it is the day after the Martin Luther King Jr holiday in January, but that is pure speculation. We will post an update here once the IRS determines that the system is ready for e-File.

The IRS also wants to remind tax professionals that there are increased security protocols to prevent identity theft and refund fraud, that may also affect the timing of a tax refund. As we all know from last year, any return containing EITC or ACTC will not be issued before mid-February.
